Bolton Wanderers endured a day to forget as they fell victim to a 4-0 defeat against Sky Bet Championship winners Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.

Barry Douglas opened the scoring for the visitors early on before Benik Afobe calmly slotted away the second.

Further goals came from Diogo Jota and Conor Coady to seal the victory for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.

Speaking to bwfc.co.uk after the final whistle, manager Phil Parkinson covered the following points…

Assessment of today’s game…

I thought we started well in the game. We pressed them well but lapses in concentration have cost us in that first half.

Wolves are a team who punish you. I have seen them a lot this season and if you do switch off, they will take those opportunities.

I have seen them do it against many teams where it is just one moment where maybe a lesser team with lesser forwards wouldn’t take those opportunities. They did today, and it became a very long afternoon after that.

On Wolves' title winning performance…

They are an outstanding team. They are a team way above any other in this league. They have players going to the World Cup and have spent plenty of money as we all know.

I think as their team stands now, they will be top half Premier League side.

His message to the players…

We have to address what we could have done better today.

Of course, sometimes you have to accept you are against top class players, but equally there are things we could have done better to alleviate the goals in the first period.

We have to go again, and we have a full week to prepare for the Burton game.

We still have a good chance of staying in the division and we have two games to achieve that.

On everybody at the club giving it everything they can…

When you have got beaten at home and you are on a run like we are, everyone can get down.

From Monday morning onwards, the preparation now has to be looking forward to Burton Albion and we have to be ready to go down there and give ourselves the best chance to get the three points.

I firmly believe we can do that and are more than capable of doing it. They have had a good win today and will be lifted by that. But, we can go down there, get the result and finish off the season in style against Nottingham Forest.

On the players bouncing back when they have been written off…

People will be writing us off and we’ve had that a lot this season and last season.

We have responded, and we will be doing everything we can to make sure we show a response at Burton.

Maybe if you put your frock On in front of the lads it will frighten them into playing better?
