WANDERERS are among a host of clubs potentially getting ready to fight it out for Walsall’s Erhun Oztumer.
The creative midfielder has no shortage of admirers and, having refused three contract offers this year, will become a free agent at the end of June.
Regarded as one of the most skilful playmakers in the Football League, Wanderers will face competition from fellow north-west sides Preston and Blackburn, as well as Phil Parkinson’s former club, Bradford, for his services.
Known as the ‘Turkish Messi’ in the Midlands, Oztumer will be best known to Whites fans for a long-range goal scored at the Macron, which won the February goal of the month.
He was also named in the PFA League One team of the year after netting 17 times in 50 appearances.
Meanwhile, Antonee Robinson, who impressed during his season with Wanderers, became a full international with a sterling performance in his first game for the full national team.
Robinson won an army of admirers – not least Parkinson – at the Macron for his athletic displays last season.
And he was man of the match as a youthful USA team beat Bolivia 3-0 in a friendly in Chester, Pennsylvania early on Tuesday morning.
The Whites’ Everton loanee was called up to the squad in March but did not feature in the game against Paraguay.
Robinson claimed an assist for a goal by Tim Weah, the son of former World Player of the year, George Weah.
Robinson’s loan at the Macron has ended but, with Parkinson complimentary about ‘Jedi’, the Toffees could send him out on another long-term loan, potentially leading to a return to Bolton.
Also in the team facing Bolivia was Nottingham Forest’s Eric Lichaj, a highly-rated defender who is believed to be another Bolton target.
Despite having a year left to run on his contract, Lichaj is thought to be surplus to requirements at Forest.
And ex-Wanderer Stuart Holden’s attempt to sweeten a possible deal with a crate of beer fell on deaf ears with the former Villa man.
“Hey @EricLichaj – only one choice here, you know what to do… Case of Budweiser on me #COYW @OfficialBWFC” posted Holden – now a Fox Sports analyst – on social media.
But Lichaj rebuffed Holden’s cheeky bribe, replying: “Sorry Stu but a case of Budweiser spoils the whole deal. #knowyourplayers.”
