PHIL Parkinson cranked up his summer transfer business again yesterday with the signing of Polish free agent Pawel Olkowski on a two-year deal.
The former FC Koln right-back has 13 caps for his country and played Europa League football for the Bundesliga outfit last season.
Parkinson said Olkowski, aged 28, was in demand elsewhere in Europe but was happy to bring the defender in as his fourth new signing of the summer.
“I am delighted to welcome Pawel to the club,” he said. “He attracted strong interest from a German and Italian club and we have worked really hard to get the deal done.
“He’s played at the top level in Germany and for his country, and has shown a real desire to come to England and play for Bolton Wanderers Football Club.”
The Wanderers boss was not present at Atherton Colls last night, as David Lee took charge of a youthful side at the Kensite Stadium.
Meanwhile, mediation between players’ union, the PFA, and Wanderers continued yesterday in an effort to solve the pay dispute which resulted in Saturday’s friendly against St Mirren being cancelled.
PFA chief Gordon Taylor, a former Bolton player, is now directly involved in the process, which is understood to have hit difficulties.
The EFL have declined to comment on the talks but the league’s rules provide a chilling reminder of why it is imperative the matter is cleared quickly.
Article 51.1, regarding the non-payment of players states: “If, following written notification from the Professional Footballers’ Association, a club is found to be in default of any payment due in accordance with a player’s contract or payment in consequence of termination of such contract, The League may place an embargo on any transfer of any registration by such club until the payment is made.”
Elsewhere, former Wanderers loanee Reece Burke has signed for Hull City from West Ham United in a £1.5million deal.
Burke played 26 times for Bolton last season and has signed a three-year deal at the KCOM Stadium.
