PHIL Gartside has openly conceded that he and manager Owen Coyle are under “100 per cent pressure” to guide Wanderers out of the Championship this season.
The chairman admits there is no time for the Whites to become accustomed to their new surroundings if they are to bounce back to the Premier League immediately, with all the added financial incentives that come with it.

Speaking before last night’s 2-0 win against Derby County, secured with goals from Kevin Davies[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]and Chris Eagles in the last 15 minutes, which eased the pressure after Saturday’s desperately disappointing opening-day defeat at Burnley, Gartside said: “There is no time for adjustment.

“This is real time and to get automatic promotion you have to target two points from every game. That is what we are setting out to do.
“There’s 100 per cent pressure on us but it’s not outside pressure, it’s internal.

“We live, breathe and die this – it’s not just a job. And I’m a fan on top of that, so it hurts me as much as anyone when we lose or there’s a bad performance.”

A new television rights deal kicks in next season, which will see the financial rewards of playing in the Premier League increase by 70 per cent.

Gartside admits that made relegation “all the more disappointing” in May, but the chairman is keen to see the current squad bolstered before the close of the transfer window and confirmed efforts were being made to land Liverpool’s highly-rated youngster Jay Spearing on loan for the season.

“There is an interest in Jay Spearing and maybe we will follow that one through,” he said on BBC Radio Manchester. “We’ll wait and see.

“Owen wants to bring in a defensive midfielder and he’s been looking all summer.”

Afraid the options are 0 points, 1 point or 3 point - 2 are not available (I know he mean on average) Razz

In the same interview PG put great emphasis on the importance of the young players coming through. In fact he said that developing young players was the masterplan. It's nice to have good young players, but they should get to play occasionally.
