WANDERERS Under-23's got off to a winning start in their defence of the Professional Development League title.
A 3-1 win at the County Ground against Bristol City came courtesy of goals from Luca Navarro, Dennis Politic and trialist Olawale Tanimowo.
Ex-Crystal Palace winger Victor Fundi was also looking to impress, going close with an early header pushed aside by Alhaji Sesay in the Robins goal.
The Sierra Leone keeper was a busy man early on and had to be quick off his line to stifle another darting run from Tanimowo before Joe Muscatt’s fierce shot was also repelled.
Wanderers opened the scoring on 20 minutes when Taminowo was tripped in the box, leaving Navarro to convert from the spot.
Dennis Politic looked dangerous out wide for Wanderers and was denied the second of the evening by a full-stretch save from Sesay.
Taminowo wasted a couple of good chances before finally getting the better of the visiting stopper with a close range effort 12 minutes from the interval.
And Politic underlined his talent by grabbing a third soon after – weaving through a couple of challenges before hammering a shot into the corner.
Wanderers could afford to take their foot off the gas in the second half but nearly grabbed a fourth through Politic, denied only by an acrobatic stop from the stubborn Sesay.
Ricardo Rees did pull one back for the Robins two minutes before the end but it was too late to be anything other than a consolation.
