PHIL Parkinson will not hurry into signing a replacement for Adam Le Fondre.

Wanderers announced the shock departure of their talismanic striker on Tuesday night with the 31-year-old flying out to Australia yesterday to complete a move to FC Sydney.

After reaching an agreement to terminate the remaining year of Le Fondre’s contract Bolton will not be entitled to a fee. But Parkinson admits a considerable saving will be made on the player’s wage – which was among the highest in the first team squad.

Wanderers were already looking to add at least one striker to their ranks before the loan deadline on August 31 but boosted by extra spending power Parkinson believes it is sensible to take stock of the market before making a move.

“We have got to make sure that we don’t take someone in just to try and give everyone a lift now that Alfie has gone, just for the sake of it,” he told The Bolton News.

“We have to make sure it’s the right person. I am confident we will bring players in who will enhance what we have brought in so far.

“We were going to add to the striker department anyway, so now it’s possibly two but we certainly one quality Championship player if we can.”

Ken Anderson has also told The Bolton News that since the close of the permanent transfer window last week a number of Premier League strikers have been offered on loan.

MK Dons’ Chuks Aneke also remains an option despite his manager Paul Tisdale saying yesterday there had been “no progress” on the deal.

“A lot of clubs have been in touch and whereas we were already looking at two, and have maybe spoken about four different strikers, the situation changes all the time,” Anderson said.

“I’d say we know which two we’d go for at this moment in time. We do want a proven goal-scorer but we have also looked at a couple of players who we feel can improve and grow to become good strikers with us.”

Appreciate the sentiment but there are only two weeks of the loan window left ao it will have to be fairly quick.

I've a feeling we'll just end up with the 2 we have until January.

We all know one of two things will happen:

1) We'll go into the season with just two attackers: Magennis & Donaldson.

or

2) We'll sign someone at the last minute and they'll be lightweight and shite.

Letting Le Fondre go just looks plain stupid to me.

If anything we will end up with one striker and not the two that are needed.

Could he not get a shirt to fit him?  Or did it have to be that big to get over his teeth?
