THE Whites’ wide men Sammy Ameobi and Will Buckley will be given every chance to make the squad for tonight’s game at home to Birmingham.
Ameobi took a blow to this hip at West Bromwich Albion on the opening day and Buckley was replaced at half time in the victory at Reading.
But, with the duo having got some time on the training pitch under their belts, Wanderers’ management team are to hold off on selecting the starting XI until the eleventh hour.
“We’re good injury-wise, we have no new injury issues,” said Steve Parkin. “The lads are really motivated, they’ve trained well, we’ve no new worries and we’re really looking forward to the game.
“Sammy has got a couple of days’ training under his belt, we’ll see how he feels tomorrow. We’ve still got a good 24 hours so we’ll see how he is and take it from there.
“He unfortunately got a bad knock at West Brom that took quite a bit of getting over so we’ve got to be careful with the games coming up in the next nine days and we have to decide if he’s right before we pick him.
“Will Buckley’s thigh has settled down, I think it was more of a precaution on Matty’s (Barrass) part. He was just a little bit worried if we sent him out for the second half there was a chance he could get seriously injured, so he’s feeling okay and he’s another one we’ll make a decision on tomorrow.”
Should either – or both – miss out tonight, there is enough in the squad to make up for their absences which, according to Parkin, is testament to their recruiting over the summer.
“The key thing is that we tried to cover every position with two players during pre-season,” he added.
“I think we’ve done that and if you can get two good players in every position you’ve got half a chance. “We’ve got a decent squad and if someone does get injured there’s cover to come in.”
