He's gone and whilst you can always make a case for what a former player might or might not have done - even Tom Eaves scored a worldy at the weekend - once they're gone you just have to move on.

In that case I would suggest that there are a lot better players than ALF that we have let go for one reason or another. Bring back Worthy!Natasha Whittam wrote:wanderlust wrote:He's gone and whilst you can always make a case for what a former player might or might not have done - even Tom Eaves scored a worldy at the weekend - once they're gone you just have to move on.

Bring back Nic Amelia. He didn't want to leave the place and is on record as saying he loved it at Bolton. The best years of his career, he said somewhere.wanderlust wrote:In that case I would suggest that there are a lot better players than ALF that we have let go for one reason or another. Alf wanted to go.If I was Alf I'd have gone to OZ too.Natasha Whittam wrote:Parky has made plenty of mistakes over the last couple of seasons, but none is looking bigger than releasing Le Fondre half way through his contract.
That game yesterday was crying out for someone to play alongside Magennis, even if only for the last 30 minutes. Many times ALF changed the game with a goal or clever assist, we simply don't have anyone of his calibre on the bench. Doidge looks out of his depth and Donaldson was never going to be anything other than a short term replacement for Magennis.
Utterly ridiculous to release a proven game changer.
Parky out.
Alf is plaupla in a league that is on par with our none league and is enjoying the sunshine.
No one could use him in the UK, not even Hibs under Lennon. His days are numbered in football and he's gone there for one last pay day.
Good luck to him. However, he's not what we need.

What a load of bollocks. He is exactly what want, something a bit different. He changed more games than anyone last season - and had more goals & assists than any other player when time played is taken into account. Notts Forest wasn't that long ago.
Does anyone think letting Alf go for free and signing Doidge for £1m is going to be good business?
And whether he wanted to go isn't the issue. He was under contract and should have been told to see out his contract.

His head would have gone down and he would have been spoiling the dressing room togetherness.Natasha Whittam wrote:Nigelbwfc wrote:

Besides, I think your forgetting the politics. Alf, I suspect was one of the ones that helped in the strike. Board were always going to get rid asap.

Alf has been benched by a series of clubs over the years, it's common knowledge he is one of the few gentleman left in the game, who hasn't caused trouble for anyone.
I think it's more likely the club thought they could spend his wage on someone better. How's that working out so far?

Pretty good. At this stage last season with ALF in the squad we were bottom of the league and had 2 points.Natasha Whittam wrote:Nigelbwfc wrote:His head would have gone down and he would have been spoiling the dressing room togetherness.

TBF this weekend is the anniversary of our first win of last season, so providing we go on a similar run between now and the end of the season we should be fine.

Yes, it was all ALFs fault we were bottom of the league.
The truth is we've let a proven game changer go, and replaced him with a League 2 player who so far looks massively out of his depth. And we're paying £1m for him!
If we're paying that sort of money for any player he should walk into the first team. I'm guessing that sort of money could have got us virtually any of the League 1 top scorers, never mind League 2.

Is it? Can’t say I’ve ever heard that and I’m far closer to the game than you.

I've heard it many times, ever listened to Colin Murray's radio shows?

Nah not a fan of Colin Murray, too much of a sycophant for me. Although credit to him for leaving talksport on the basis of Murdoch getting involved.

He's ok, but he's mentioned ALF in a positive light on a couple of occasions for non-footballing reasons, and then there was the time ALF rang up Channel 5 (when Murray was presenting) when Danny Cowley (Martin's dream BWFC manager) said he was too in awe of ALF to approach him when he saw him on holiday.

Fair enough, but that doesn’t show Alf wouldn’t be put out at the move being blocked.

I guess not, just my opinion that he wouldn't be a trouble maker. Some people sign a contract and stick to it.

Adam Le Fondre's record so far for Sydney FC:
Played 2, Goals 2
Once again, a fucking huge mistake to let him go.

From our standpoint, I agree in toto. From a club standpoint, he wanted to leave... do you try and enforce the contract? Result is that he probably would have scored a few points for us in the past downward spiral... with a goal here and there that would have made the one-goal games as draws and consequently points for us. But a disgruntled "enslaved" employee (albeit making more than anyone on the Nuts blog), might not make that effort. He is a true loss to this club.Natasha Whittam wrote:Adam Le Fondre's record so far for Sydney FC:
