The Gay Cake

Common sense has finally prevailed in the gay cake row.

For those living in a bubble, Gareth Lee ordered a Bert & Ernie cake from Ashers Bakery, but wanted "Support Gay Marriage" written on the cake. The bakery refused on the grounds of religious beliefs. Rather than just go to another shop, Mr Lee took the bakery to court.

The bakery lost the court case and the subsequent appeal, but today the Supreme Court has ruled that the bakery had the right to refuse Mr Lee's message.

All this took 4 years. The original cake cost £36.

Incredibly, the Equality Commission joined Mr Lee in the case and spent more than £150,000 of public money on this complete waste of time. It really is an outrage, as though this Bert & Ernie cake was somehow in the public interest.

We've got services being pulled left right and centre, but someone deems it acceptable to spend public money on this load of shite. Heads should roll.

If some nutter had come in and asked for a cake with the words 'I support vivisection' on it- most sensible people would refuse.
Why should a business ,just because its a business, have to do exactly what a customer wants.
The proprietors were completely within their rights to hold views on a whole range of things including gay marriage and they objected to do something because it conflicted with their beliefs. I think they were totally within their right to refuse to do so.
Why did the gay couple make such a fuss about it? Why not go just say sod you then, and then go off to anther bakery and get their cake made?
Don't reply telling me I'm anti gay, as I'm not.
I simply believe that if you have principles and beliefs then you have the right to stand up for them and say that there's a line that you won't cross.

I couldn't agree more, and I really can't imagine anyone thinking anything else, gay or not.

And ignoring everything else, it's a bloody strange thing to have written on a cake. It's like wanderlust buying his wife a cake saying "Brexit Stinks".
