Wanderers could welcome Gary O’Neil back to the squad for the first time in a month for the trip to Millwall.

The midfielder limped out of a 1-1 draw at Rotherham United on October 20 with a calf strain, which turned out to be worse than first feared.

He has now returned to full training and Phil Parkinson says the 35-year-old’s return to the reckoning has already been a big boost as his side prepare to travel to The Den.

“Gaz is a good player, he’s got footballing intelligence, and he’s great to have around the place, he said. “He understands the game and his training standards are good. It’s so important that the younger ones see that.

“Sometimes you miss a player just as much on the training ground as you do on a Saturday at 3pm, such is his influence on the training ground.”

Stephen Ireland has also returned to full training after a calf problem but will be given another week before a decision is taken on whether to pitch him into the squad for the Wigan Athletic game.

Millwall will have to make a change in goal, as Ben Amos is unable to play against his parent club. Neil Harris will pick between David Martin and Jordan Archer.

The Lions boss also has a decision to make up front, where Tom Bradshaw will be missing with knee ligament damage.
