Will Buckley feels Wanderers had no choice but to soldier on during their current pay problems with the club.
After scoring his second goal of the season in the 1-1 draw against Wigan Athletic, the winger admitted more wage issues had hardly been ideal preparation for the derby.
But after receiving assurances from Ken Anderson that their November wage would be paid by the end of this week, Buckley felt the reaction was a positive one.
“It was a tough week on and off the pitch,” he told The Bolton News. “Obviously we were concentrating on the game because that’s all we can do as professionals. We conducted ourselves very well.
“The way the lads and the manager are we knew the most important thing was the game. Nothing was going to take our mind off that, no matter what the situation is.
“The main thing was to show the fans we are going to give everything.
“Of course it’s not ideal. As players we know our job on the pitch and we’ve got to stick to that. We have got to perform because at the end of the day the fans are coming to pay good money to see us give 100 per cent.”
Buckley got a close-up view of the controversial penalty given by referee Simon Hooper on Saturday as Jack Hobbs made a challenge on Will Grigg.
“First half I was running back on that side when, to me, it looked like he (Hobbs) got the ball,” he said. “He got the man after but that doesn’t really matter.
“It’s disappointing the ref made the decision and we feel a bit aggrieved it has gone against us.”
In the dying minutes of the game Wanderers were denied a penalty of their own when Mark Beevers’ volley appeared to hit Sam Morsy on his raised arms.
“The one at the end – his hands were in the air and when we’ve looked at it again we feel it was a penalty – we feel aggrieved but we have got to believe things will start to go for us sooner rather than later,” Buckley added.
