Sammy Ameobi has had a chance to recharge his batteries – and Phil Parkinson feels Wanderers fans will soon see the difference.
After two months out with ankle ligament damage the talismanic front man struggled to recapture his best form during a short burst of games at the end of November.
Parkinson felt there were signs of improvement in last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Wigan Athletic, where Ameobi was paired alongside Christian Doidge in the Wanderers attack.
And that continued on the training ground this week, where despite the problems which have mounted over the players’ delayed salary, there have been some reasons to be cheerful.
“The three games in a week after being out injured was a lot for Sammy but now he’s had a free week,” he said.
“He has had a full week’s training and I think he looks in a better place going into this game.
“Anything that happens behind the scenes I hold a group meeting and tell them what I can. But they have just tried to get on with it and the mood has been okay.”
Parkinson has warned his players of the dangers which could await at Norwich, a side which has lost just once in their last 16 games.
But the Wanderers boss is confident his team will not go to Carrow Road simply to contain a team which is among the top scorers in the division.
“Rotherham and Millwall did well down there, so we have got to look carefully at the way Norwich play and set up a way to make sure we can give them problems,” he said.
“We can’t just sit in and let them have the ball all afternoon because they are good at that. We have to carry a threat in the team and we have been working our way towards that. We’ll look at it again when we stop off for a training session halfway down to Norwich.”
