Bolton's Jack Hobbs says poor refereeing has cost club points

Jack Hobbs has had his fill of refereeing apologies at Wanderers.

Slighted by a series of decisions which have gone against Bolton in recent weeks, the centre-half hopes he will not be complaining about the standard of officiating after a high-pressure game at Brentford this weekend.

Phil Parkinson was compelled to send a DVD of ‘errors’ to ref’s chief Dave Allison a fortnight ago – and felt legitimised when his claims were upheld.

It failed to prevent another big call going against Wanderers in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Leeds United, however, as a late trip by Kalvin Phillips on Craig Noone was waved away by Merseyside whistle-blower Rob Jones.

Hobbs feels Wanderers have just cause for complaint after Parkinson’s video was shown by Allison to a group of referees at St George’s Park for their feedback.

“For them to concede they had got three out of the four decisions wrong, and that one was 50-50, none of them right, an apology is all well and good. But it’s costing us points,” the defender complained.

“We can’t really do anything about it now, you just have to hope that over the course of the season it evens itself out. People always say it does – so if that’s the case we’re due a few.

“As players we just have to keep getting in those positions, keep on trying to do the right things.”

Wanderers face a run of four games in 11 days between now and the start of the New Year which Hobbs feels could define their season.

Refusing to write the campaign off as a straightforward scrap for survival, the 30-year-old insists there is enough belief in the camp to turn things around.

“The games come thick and fast over the festive period and if you can put two or three wins together there, you shoot up the league,” he said.

“It can be but speaking to the lads who were here last year it was tough. They didn’t get many wins in the first 11 games and they turned it around.

“Some of the more experienced and vocal lads in the camp will get us going and turn things the right way. We have just got to make sure we’re on it, come in the next day and make sure the intensity is there. As soon as you lose that, you know there’s a problem.”
