Ex-Bolton co-owner Dean Holdsworth involved in Palermo takeover
FORMER Wanderers co-owner and player Dean Holdsworth has helped a successful takeover of Italian club Palermo.
Holdsworth is acting as a senior football advisor to the Sport Capital Group, who have this morning announced a deal to buy the Serie B side.
It is understood Holdsworth will be working alongside the board of directors and football staff for the remainder of this season.
The former Wimbledon and Brentford striker completed a takeover at Wanderers alongside Ken Anderson in March 2016, pulling the club back from the brink of administration.
It proved an unhappy homecoming for the one-time club record signing, however, as just 17 months later he resigned as a director following a series of highly-publicised fall-outs and the liquidation his Sports Shield BWFC company.
Palermo were relegated from Serie A in 2016/17 and have won the Copa Italia three times. They currently top the Serie B table by three points from Brescia.
A statement released today read: “Sport Capital Group Investments Ltd (a wholly owned subsidiary of Sport Capital Group Ltd) has today completed the acquisition of 100 per cent of the shares of US Citta di Palermo Spa, through the completion of previously announced preliminary contract dated November 30.
“At a shareholders’ general meeting of US Citta di Palermo Spa a new board of directors shall be nominated, with Clive Richardson as president, Emmanuele Facile as Chief Executive and John Treacy as third director. The new board and group of senior football advisors led by Dean Holdsworth will be working on plans for the remainder of the 2018/19 season with the current management team.
“Sport Capital Group Investments Ltd will in the coming days be calling a shareholder meeting to increase its share capital to up to 20million Euros.”
