Phil Parkinson believes he has the credentials to help Wanderers bounce back from League One next season.
With relegation confirmed and little but pride to play for at Blackburn Rovers this afternoon, focus has shifted on the rebuilding job awaiting this summer.
Laurence Bassini’s takeover is pending an official thumbs up from the EFL and the owner-in-waiting faces some big decisions in the coming days and weeks as he maps out the club’s financial recovery.
Parkinson has not yet discussed his own position beyond the next three games but pointed to his record at Bolton, Bradford and Colchester in the third tier as a reason why he should be considered to stay on.
“I can’t tell you what Mr Bassini should or shouldn’t do,” he said. “I can only say my record is very good in terms of promotions from the division. If I was on the outside and looking for someone to get the club back up then I think I’d be very high on the list.
“I got the club promoted and I’ve got promotions before at the level we’re now going into but you have to respect the new owner may have his own ideas.
“I am sure he will take his time and look at all aspects of the club and that will give me time to speak to my family as well.”
Parkinson and his players have not been paid their March wages and the entire payroll will be due once again a week tomorrow (April 30).
With that in mind, the Bolton boss says he is keen to give Bassini space to resolve a messy situation.
“He has got a lot of his plate in terms of sorting out the wages and finances of the club, it’s Easter weekend as well with a game on Monday,” he said.
“Mr Bassini has come in and looked at the facilities and been surprised what is here to build from. It’s a great challenge for him too.
“As the days progress I’d expect to sit down and have a longer chat with him.”
