Wanderers’ opening day fixture against Wycombe could be put under review by the EFL if the Football Ventures consortium fail to get their takeover across the line today.
League bosses are running out of patience with the consortium, who have been ready to complete a deal to buy the club for some time and they now want some assurances the season curtain-raiser at Adams Park will not be affected.
An official statement was issued by the EFL last week, where new executive chair Debbie Jevans expressed “significant concern” at Wanderers’ situation – but behind the scenes and over the weekend, Bolton’s potential new owners and administrators of both the club and hotel have been pressed hard for answers.
Players and staff at Wanderers are growing increasingly impatient at the delays but have been told there could be an update at the training ground today.
If the squad remains unpaid, there are no guarantees that Phil Parkinson will be able to pick his contracted senior players for the Wycombe game, which might force the league into pre-emptive action if they feel the integrity of the competition could be comprimised.
