Wanderers hope to have a new manager in place by the end of next week.
Interviews for the position will commence quickly following the arrival of the Football Ventures consortium as new owners, with choices likely to be limited to those who can start work immediately.
Ex-Bolton skipper Kevin Nolan has been among the out-of-work managers linked strongly with the job, which will entail trying to keep Wanderers in League One against all odds.
“It is a very tough task,” said Football Ventures director, Michael James. “Our league starts now and we are starting on minus 11 points with the prospect of one or two punishments to be handed out.
“We need someone who can bring someone who can bring some stability.
“Time constraints are a big thing here. We’re here on Thursday evening and the transfer deadline is Monday at 5pm – we have basically a day-and-a-half of normal working hours. We’re seven-day-a-week people and we’ll work tirelessly to fill this spot.”
“We need someone who will be able to start right away,” added chair, Sharon Brittan.
“This is not a normal interview process, we don’t really have the luxury of time.
“We will draw up a shortlist. I’ll be involved in the interview process but the decision will be taken by the board.
“The manager is such an intrinsic part of everything, it’s such a massive appointment, we have to get it right first time.”
Jimmy Phillips will again take interim charge against Gillingham but his squad could be boosted by up to four players by kick-off.
Discussions were taking place yesterday with agents in an effort to sort out registrations by noon today.
Defender Jack Hobbs looks the most likely prospect at present, having already agreed a contract with the club, although his participation could not be guaranteed as The Bolton News went to press.
Meanwhile, it is understood that Paul Aldridge, who has acted as an advisor to both Ken Anderson and administrators of both the club and hotel, will leave the club shortly.
The former Sheffield Wednesday chief executive has been at the club in a non-official capacity since the summer of 2016.
