Wanderers could turn to fellow League One side Peterborough United in the hunt for new recruits.
Posh director of football Barry Fry, who had a brief spell as a Bolton player in the 1960s, says he has been in dialogue with the club about players who could swap London Road for the University of Bolton Stadium.
After the Football Ventures takeover was completed the Whites need to bring in around a dozen players in the coming days while also in the process of appointing a new manager.
The window for permanent transfers and loans closes at 5pm on Monday with only free agents able to be signed after that.
Fry says discussions have surrounded Peterborough’s transfer-listed players which include last season’s captain Alex Woodyard, fellow midfielder Mark O’Hara, right-back Jason Naismith, winger Isaac Buckley-Ricketts and goalkeepers Aaron Chapman and Conor O’Malley.
“I’ve had a conversation with Bolton who told me their hands are tied until they appoint a new manager,” Fry told the Peterborough Telegraph.
“They also told me they need to sign 15 players by 5pm next Monday so they have a list of our available players and what we would want for them.
“There’s a good chance a couple might sign for them. It’s great Bolton have survived. They are still a massive club for League One level.”
Wanderers have just re-signed Jack Hobbs in time for the trip to Gillingham having hoped to have three more deals tied up for the game at Priestfield Stadium.
