Jake Wright aims to show Wanderers fans why he was one of the first people on Keith Hill’s call list when he got the Bolton job last week.
The experienced defender was one of nine players who arrived on deadline day, sealing a six-month loan deal from Sheffield United.
Wright was asked whether he would come to the UniBol on Saturday evening – just hours after Hill and David Flitcroft were confirmed as the new management team, and now the 33-year-old aims to repay their faith quickly in a Wanderers shirt.
“I know it was a stressful time for him but to get a call that quickly shows that he really wanted me here and that means a lot,” he told The Bolton News.
“There was no messing around. As soon as he asked me if I would be interested in playing for Bolton, I was 100 per cent.
“I haven’t worked with him or Flicker (David Flitcroft) before but I’ve spoken to a few lads who have spoken highly of them as coaches and people, so I am looking forward to playing here.”
Hill has lost the services of full-back Joe Bunney for a few months after he was involved in a nasty car accident at the weekend but the Bolton boss has the option of handing out several debuts at the weekend in his first league match in charge at Rotherham United.
The mass influx of players has got everyone guessing at what the starting line-up will be in South Yorkshire – and Wright says the competition on the training ground won’t make it an easy decision.
“Usually you might have two or three new players after a deadline day into a squad of 20 but this has been a strange one,” he said. “It has probably been easier for me because I’m one of 10-12 new guys in there and it has meant we’ve all had to gel quickly.
“There are some good players here. And I think the young lads have got a massive part to play.
“They should be proud of what they have done. There’s a difference between the lads here and the ones at Sheffield United, you can see how the extra experience has helped them.”
