Keith Hill believes Wanderers will be in a position to challenge for promotion next season – regardless of which division they are playing in.
The Bolton boss knows his immediate aim is to try and claw back points in the relegation battle and avoid dropping into the fourth tier if at all possible.
That chase is resumed this week as Wanderers prepare for a home game against AFC Wimbledon, a club four places and 15 points above them in the table.
But looking into the future, Hill insists there is plenty of reason for optimism with the club now on a sounder financial footing under the Football Ventures consortium.
“I am 100 per cent behind it because they have a clear vision and they are doing things correctly,” he told The Bolton News. “It is brilliant because I can see a strategy.
“There is a foundation being put in place for the club, for the football, for the future. There’s a real ambition here from the footballing perspective – that’s from me, the staff, the owners, to bounce.
“Next season the ambition, whether it’s League One or League Two, is to get promoted.
“That is from the owners, that is from me. It’s something we want to design.
“We are trying our best to make that happen. Next season we want promotion, that’s the plan, our forecast. And we’re going to try and do it on the financial forecasts that are put in place this season.”
Hill says his plans to reshape the squad in January will not change regardless of league position, provided the Bolton public continue to turn out in number to support the club.
“I think the same foundation can be laid for whatever division we’re in because we’re a big club,” he said. “The infrastructure should be based on your fanbase and potential commercial revenue.
“We have a stadium to service, okay, but from the fans’ perspective we should be challenging – financially and football-wise – in whatever league we’re in next season.”
