Liam Bridcutt could be side-lined for several weeks after suffering a second shoulder injury in training at Wanderers.
The on-loan Nottingham Forest midfielder was only two games into his comeback from a fractured sternum and dislocated shoulder – but Keith Hill revealed an innocuous collision with winger Thibaud Verlinden at Lostock at the start of last week is likely to rule him out until the New Year.
Luke Murphy was also pulled out of the squad for Saturday’s 2-2 draw with AFC Wimbledon, leaving teenagers Ronan Darcy and Sonny Graham to be fast-tracked into the starting line-up.
“It’s unfortunate, to be perfectly honest, especially with Liam, he had a fracture of his collarbone and we didn’t realise but there was a collision in the first week back in training and he did his other one, in a challenge with Thibaud,” Hill explained.
“So the irony is that he was feeling pain in his chest and played the two games uncomfortably. Physically it was hurting and he’s a contact player so we need that in his game. He went for an MRI scan and now we know he has fractured his other one.
“Luke is more of a minor injury, a re-occurrence of a previous injury he had, but we’re hoping to get him back quite quickly.”
