Opposition boss

Brian Barry-Murphy - Former Bury midfielder who was appointed caretaker manager of Dale after Keith Hill was sacked in March 2019. In April last year he was awarded a two-year contract as the club finished 16th in League One. They have fared well in the cup competitions this season, and currently sit 18th.

Referee

James Adcock – The Nottinghamshire official who has issued 42 yellow cards and three reds in his 14 games so far this season. He last took charge of Wanderers – or rather the Junior Whites – in their 0-0 draw against Coventry City back August. He is yet to preside over a game involving Rochdale.

Fixture trends

Rochdale have not won a league game at home in their last six attempts. Their previous victory was on October 22 against MK Dons, with goals from Callum Camps and Ian Henderson.

Wanderers have not won at Spotland since 1985 when Tony Caldwell scored the decisive goal in an All Members Cup match. They have never actually won a league game at the ground.

John Byrom has scored more goals for Bolton against Rochdale than any other player – he managed six, including a hat-trick in a 6-3 win at Burnden in 1969.

Trivia

The Grade-II listed Olde Boar’s Head pub in nearby Middleton dates back to the 14th Century and Bonny Prince Charlie is said to have taken refuge at the inn in 1745. Highwayman Dick Turpin is said to have stopped off at The Olde Boar’s Head on his way to York where he was later executed.
