The only way around this is to suspend the season until June when the virus is expected to have passed it's peak, play 2 games a week, and delay the start of next season until October, no other way to set fair play.Natasha Whittam wrote:Money talks. No way is anyone going to get relegated or miss out on promotion without legal action.
You could have half the Championship demanding £100m on lost PL revenues.
While cancelling the season would definitely benefit us, I really cannot see it happening.
Season Suspended.

There's been talk of no relegation from the Prem and Leeds and WBA come up making it a 22 team league. Not sure how that would help with fixture congestion and clubs like Fulham in the playoffs? They wouldn;t be happy with that's for sure.

I might be making this up, but didn't the Premier league start as a 22 team league? it's only 4 extra games per season so extra mid weeks wouldn't hurt, but as you say the teams in play off positions would make it extremely uncomfortable for the EFL.Norpig wrote:There's been talk of no relegation from the Prem and Leeds and WBA come up making it a 22 team league. It did Martin. In fact before the PL there were 22 teams in Div 1 and 2 and 24 in div 3 and 4. The first season of the PL was played that way before the change was made to the current format.
By the way I checked the PL/EFL rules and both leagues CAN declare the regular season complete since 75% of fixtures have taken place. If various teams wanted to try and sue I suspect they'd wind up being told they don't have a case since the league has simply abided by existing rules that all clubs must agree to in order to participate. The play-off's do complicate the situation somewhat but the clubs currently occupying play off spots could play them when football is resumed under the current rules.

Surely they just need to call off the whole season. No fair of teams fighting in relegation battles with games in hand over the teams above them.

English football will be suspended until at least 30 April because of the continued spread of coronavirus.
All games in England's Premier League, EFL, Women's Super League and Women's Championship, and all fixtures in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, are currently postponed.
The Football Association has also agreed that the current season can be "extended indefinitely".
