Fleetwood Town keeper Matt Gilks could be offered a way into coaching at Bolton Wanderers.

The 38-year-old former Scotland international, who has amassed 491 career appearances for the likes of Rochdale, Blackpool and Rangers, is understood to be in talks about a role in Ian Evatt’s backroom staff.

Gilks was on the bench for Fleetwood in their play-off semi-final defeat to Wycombe Wanderers earlier this week but has come to the end of his playing contract and is looking for his next job.

The Rochdale-born keeper played alongside Evatt in the Premier League at Bloomfield Road and may now get the chance to replace Mike Pollitt, who announced via social media last weekend that his contract was not being renewed.

Wanderers are also making progress on one of their key summer targets, ex-Plymouth midfielder Antoni Sarcevic.

Talks are now believed to be at an advanced stage with the free agent, who helped Argyle to promotion with 10 goals last season.

Fans are still anxiously waiting for confirmation of the club’s first new signing of the summer, ex-Swindon striker Eoin Doyle, but The Bolton News has learned the delay in the announcement is down to an agreement between Wanderers and Swindon and not any problem with the deal.
