Wanderers will use their practice match against Wigan Athletic today to bring several players up to speed with the rest of the group.

Ian Evatt is expected to switch his side around for the Latics game, using some of the younger players who have been consigned to substitute appearances thus far in pre-season, along with some of the signings who have only recently joined the squad.

Among them will be the latest addition, full-back Jamie Mascoll, who was brought in on a free transfer after leaving Wycombe Wanderers in the summer.

The likes of Harry Brockbank, Adam Senior, Callum King-Harmes, Matty Alexander, George Thomason and Sonny Graham should also be given extra game time.

Evatt said after Saturday’s victory against Accrington that some of his players were a little behind the others in terms of preparation.

“We have been working very hard in training and the ones who were later into the group are behind the others, playing catch-up,” he explained. “We do not want that to happen too far into the season.”

Wigan have endured a tough few months and are currently in administration, facing the potential sale of their stadium and other assets.

The Latics have already moved on several players this summer and are looking to address football creditor debts of around £6million.

It has been strongly suggested that Wigan Warriors RL chief Ian Lenegan will buy the DW Stadium and Bolton’s old Euxton training ground – purchased by the Latics in early 2016 – could also be up for grabs.

Ex-Wanderer Leam Richardson has been placed in charge of the first team after the resignation of Paul Cook and the Latics kicked off their pre-season campaign with a 2-1 defeat against Carlisle United.

Among the team that day was former Bolton academy graduate Alex Perry and Latics hero Callum McManaman, who is training with the club after being released at Luton.
