Ian Evatt has urged Wanderers fans to be patient with his side, insisting the 3-0 defeat at home to Crewe was not a fair reflection of the game at the UniBol.
All the goals came in the second half of the Whites’ final friendly with Daniel Powell's opener coming from a goal kick before Charlie Kirk made it 2-0 from a corner.
The third, scored by substitute Offrande Zanzala, came late on when Wanderers were pushing to find way back into the game.
Evatt however insists his new-look Whites are coming together with eight days to go until the season opens with the Carabao Cup first round tie against Bradford.
"It's disappointing," said the head coach. "We've lost the game and it looks a heavy defeat, however it wasn't a heavy defeat. I think we shaded the first half. The first 15 minutes were probably theirs and then after that I thought we took over.
"We just didn't score in our good spells. We had lots of entries into the final third and weren't quite clinical enough.
"In the second half we were on top and we concede a goal from a goal kick and a corner. You can't afford to give goals away like that. After that the game's gone.
"There's lots of hard work to be done.
"We're not going to have cracked it straight away. We've only been together as a group for six or seven weeks and we've got 15 new players so we have to have a bit of patience and a bit of realism.
"It will come, it will happen, but it's going to take time."
