Ian Evatt is considering making sweeping changes in an effort to kick-startWanderers’ season.
The Bolton head coach voiced his disappointment at Saturday’s 2-0 home defeat against Newport, his fifth on the spin since taking charge.
Wanderers are now above the relegation zone by virtue of alphabetical order, their lowest-ever league position, and face a trip to EFL new boys Harrogate next up.
Evatt has already shelved the formation he honed over the summer and could now side-line some of his new signings as he looks for a reaction on Saturday.
Wanderers’ defending for both Newport goals came in for particular criticism – and Evatt says he may now look to fresh faces for inspiration.
Citing problems which led to the two Newport goals, it looks likely that the line-up in Doncaster this weekend will be a much changed one.
“I am furious with the first goal because we’re in comfortable possession and then go back to Billy but our defenders look petrified of getting the ball,” Evatt explained.
“Billy ends up kicking it long out of play because nobody is showing for the ball and then 30 seconds later the ball is in the back of our net.
“It’s those little details. There is no excuse whatsoever for not wanting the football. There isn’t 12,000 fans in the stadium that are moaning, shouting and screaming. They haven’t got that pressure – the only pressure they have is from themselves and me.
“They should be demanding possession. If we have to make changes then we will because everyone has had an opportunity now – whether it was in pre-season or over the last few games.
“It’s now about who shows me they want it the most this week.”
