Wanderers will dip into the transfer market again this week – but only at the right price.
Ian Evatt ideally wants two more players to add more competition in his squad but is unwilling to bust the League Two salary cap, voted in this summer.
Feelers had been put out across several Premier League and Championship clubs for potential signings but Evatt may now have to change his original plan to cater for the absence of Tom White and Gethin Jones, who are both out of action until December.
The lack of options on the right side of attack may be a concern for the Whites boss, who is also being protective of new arrival Lloyd Isgrove until he is fully fit.
The former Swindon Town man will begin a two-week training ground ‘boot camp’ alongside Shaun Miller this morning in an effort to get them up to full fitness.
In the meantime, Evatt is looking to boost his options in a busy October.
“We’re always looking to improve,” he said.
“We’ll never put this club’s finances at risk for the sake of bringing bodies into the building.
“We want it to be at the right price and if not, we move on. But we’re hopeful we’ll get one or two into the building this week.”
Clubs have until 5pm on Friday to get business done and it looks increasingly like he will utilise the loan market to cover for the short-term issues in his squad.
“When you have not been attached to a club, post-lockdown, post-pre-season, you end up just breaking down,” he said.
“You almost have to sacrifice three or four weeks with the players to make them robust enough to cope with the demands of training.
“The better fit for us at the moment is to take players who have had pre-season, trained with their club and are used to playing games.”
