Had an eye test a couple of weeks ago and after 49 years and 31 of those with 1 eye i finally need to wear glasses. I need them for reading so not doing too bad but it did make me feel old.
How many other glasses wearers do we have on here?
Funnily enough some kids cycling pass me the other day were shouting 'baldy' and I was looking around to see who they were shouting at before the penny dropped that it was aimed at me!
As it happens I'm not but I do shave my head (four at the top, two at the sides) but there's certainly plenty up there still!
Clearly it's those kids needing to go to Specsavers not me!
Have you thought about getting a monocle, certainly something different!

I've worn glasses since my late teens, but probably should have been wearing them sooner. As a kid, the trauma of being called 'speccy four eyes' would have been too much to bear. So much better for kids now, thanks to Harry Potter. He made glasses cool. Laser surgery might be an option, but I'm not vain, and feel quite comfortable with my specs now, added to which, I've known cases where the surgery makes things worse. Glasses also add to an air of intelligence, so it's going to be much harder for Bob to call you a blockhead, as you stare meaningfully into the distance, pondering the meaning of life. As for a monocle, it might work. A double act with Bob perhaps?
I had a "lazy" eye so I had it lasered about 15 years ago and that was weird as I could suddenly see for miles and had to hold books at arms length for a few years. Now I've got cataracts in both so my sight is getting worse but they won't operate until it gets unmanageable. Pro tem I'm using reading glasses when required. My mate told me that nowadays you can get your eyes lasered without them having to remove the cornea so I'm up for that once the cataracts have been done.

An optician I know told me that they're very close to eyedrops, that will replace the need for surgery.

I’ve never had to wear glasses despite staring at a monitor all my working life. I’m slightly long sighted in one eye and short in the other but it seems to balance out. I look like a twat in a hat so I imagine I’d look the same way in glasses. Something to look forward to in future years
I was diagnosed with Keratoconus in one eye 30 years ago. Basically means that the cornea, instead of being gently curved, bulges out into a cone shaped affair. You can see bugger all out of that eye. Had to have a Cornea transplant which basically means they chop off the front of your eyeball and graft on the cornea of some bloke who has been dead for a few years. Transplant didn't work first time as my eye rejected the new cornea, but worked the second time. My vision out of that eye is still crap and will never improve but at least it cured the Keratoconus. Problem is I've just been told after my Diabetes review that I've got a Cataract developing in my one good eye. It's not much fun this growing old business. Still, with the way we are playing at the moment, it does have it's benefits.

Been wearing my glasses at work and i can actually see now! Slightly worried that as soon as i take them off and try to read anything my sight looks worse now. Strange how quick your eyes get used to a bit of extra help!

You'll be able to wash twice as many bedpans now you can see!
