Five weeks ago, after we’d had our first jabs, Penny felt that all of us, who’d benefited from our “free” vaccinations, should say ‘thank you’ by making a donation towards the provision of jabs in poorer parts of the world. She explored possible ways of enabling this and has been in correspondence with a range of people including Lord Crisp (who used to run the NHS), Baroness Hayman and the Bishop of St Albans.
The good news is that a cross party group in the House of Lords has worked with GAVI (Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation) and there is now a new charity in place to enable people in the UK to contribute to the vaccination programme across the world. It’s called ‘Get One, Give One’ and has links to COVAX and the WHO.
You can donate online; it couldn’t be easier. The details are set out below. So please consider donating yourself and also pass on the information to your friends and relatives who have already had a jab or will be getting one soon. While this is essentially altruist, I guess none of us are safe until everyone’s safe.
Finally, the challenge is now to publicise and promote the campaign as widely as possible.
