WANDERERS (4-2-3-1).

MATT GILKS…6.

Controlled what was in front of him with his standard commentary and had a few routine saves to make. One of his easier afternoons.

GETHIN JONES…7.

Always an outlet and though his final ball varied in quality in the first half, he was there again to supply the killer ball for Lee’s equaliser.

RICARDO SANTOS…6.5.

Santos prefers a bit of time and space, so taking care of a busy striker like Lavery was not an easy task. He managed it, though, with room to spare.

ALEX BAPTISTE…6.5.

Did all the simple things well as Walsall continued to pile the ball into the penalty box at every opportunity. A solid day in the office.

DECLAN JOHN…7.

Switched on the afterburners a couple of times to make inroads into Walsall territory and very rarely put a foot wrong in possession.

MJ WILLIAMS…6.

Saw plenty of the ball but struggled for the first hour to unpick the visitors’ locks. Won his battles and protected the back four well.

KIERAN LEE…7.5.

While it is true he could have closed down Sam Perry a little quicker for Walsall’s goal, he responded with a quite sensational final hour. Scored, won a penalty and covered every blade of grass.

DAPO AFOLAYAN…6.

Always looked a threat and had six shots on goal. Some iffy decision-making at times, which can be put down to experience, but such a talent.

NATHAN DELFOUNESO…6.

Poor in the first half, no beating around the bush. Took up much better positions after the break and helped get Bolton back into the game.

LLOYD ISGROVE…6.5.

Works really hard out of possession, which isn’t always appreciated. Wanderers needed a bit more from him in attack at times but he’s one you would want alongside you in the trenches.

EOIN DOYLE…6.5.

Hardly made an impression on the game until Wanderers needed a matchwinner from the penalty spot. Once he grabbed the ball there was no doubting it would be 2-1.

Subs: Gnahoua 84 (for Afolayan), Elbouzedi 85 (for Isgrove), Miller 90+1 (for Doyle), Thomason 90+3 (for Delfouneso).

Not used: Maddison, Brockbank, Tutte.

Walsall (3-4-3): Roberts; White, Clarke, Sadler; Norman, Kinsella, Perry, Melbourne; Gordon, Lavery, Osadebe.

Subs: Cockerill-Mollett 77 (for Gordon), Osei Yaw 88 (for Lavery), McDonald 88 (for Osadebe), Bates 88 (for Sadler).

Not used: Sinclair, Rose, Wright.

Referee: Seb Stocksbridge 8/10: Strong performance from the referee, who got all the big decisions right on the day. White’s red card was arguably the most debatable – but even Walsall boss Brian Dutton admitted he should not have put his hands on Dapo Afolayan.
