Ian Evatt hopes the cool and calm approach can help Wanderers get back to winning ways this weekend against Harrogate.
Although defeat at Newport County saw Bolton drop out of the automatic promotion places, Evatt knows his side can make an immediate return if they can better Tranmere’s result at Scunthorpe United on Saturday.
The Whites took a disappointing one point from their two games over the Easter weekend yet results elsewhere ensured damage to their top-three chase was limited.
Evatt believes it is important that both he and his players do not allow themselves to get caught up in the drama of the final month of the season.
“It is a huge opportunity for us now,” he said. “There will be ups and downs, swings and roundabouts for the rest of the season, the remaining seven games.
“We just have to keep calm, let everyone around us be emotional, we just have to focus on the prize.”
Wanderers mustered 14 shots at goal against Newport, 11 from open play, which represented their best return since the home win against Cambridge United on March 9. Evatt had asked for more from his attacking players after the goalless draw against Colchester United and their response at Rodney Parade left him hopeful that there will not be a third successive blank this weekend.
“Up until the final finish the players did everything that was asked of them, it was just a case of putting the ball in the back of the net,” he said.
“If we create those chances again on Saturday against Harrogate then I am sure we will take them.”
Evatt hinted that he may bring Marcus Maddison back for his first start since the 1-0 win at Southend United on February 20.
The on-loan Charlton playmaker impressed Evatt with his cameo off the bench at Newport and Wanderers have won all three of the games he has started since arriving at the club.
“Marcus will make an impact on this season,” he said.
