Wanderers have the character to pass a stern test of their promotion credentials at Salford, says Ian Evatt.

After coming from behind to grab three points against Harrogate on Saturday, the Whites go to the only undefeated home ground in the division looking to cement their place in the top three.

Salford have had three different permanent managers this season but have managed to protect an unblemished record at the Peninsula Stadium which reads nine wins and 11 draws from 20 games.

Evatt believes the experience in his own squad will be enough to pass what, on paper at least, is one of the most daunting fixtures in the run-in.

“We have got people right the way through the spine of this team who have promotions on their CV and this is where is counts,” he said.

“We are looking forward to the game. We know what is at stake. Both teams are looking to get promotion.

“And we’re in a good frame of mind. We were even before Saturday.

“Things didn’t go according to plan in the first half against Harrogate – and that’s allowed – but to get back into it in the second half the way we did was excellent, and I have watched it back, we really were excellent.”

Wanderers have had to think on their feet in recent weeks as opposition sides look to stifle their possession game by changing their own tried-and-tested approach.

Tuesday’s game is further complicated by the fact the new man in the dugout, Gary Bowyer, traditionally has a different style of play than the last, Richie Wellens.

“It is difficult to read opposition at the moment because teams change for us week-in, week-out, but we have to find the solutions ourselves,” Evatt said.

“Whatever Salford do, we need to be ready for it. And if we play to the intensity level that I expect from the players I think we are more than a match for most.

“It will probably be a different type of game. Gary is a different manager to Richie in that he is slightly more direct. Richie is more about building from the back and playing possession-based football whereas Gary looks to be more effective, gets the ball to the front lads and plays for set pieces.

“It will be a challenging game because they are undefeated at home all season and it is tough. They are vying for a play off spot but both teams will be looking to win, which I think makes it a really interesting night.”
