Wanderers midfielder MJ Williams says the Whites are aiming for promotion to the Championship this season.
Williams has become a vital member of Ian Evatt’s starting XI since his arrival at the UniBol earlier this year.
The Welsh midfielder – who had spells with Rochdale, Blackpool and Swindon Town – insists there is a strong togetherness in the dressing room.
“I think the club can go as far as it wants really,” he told Sgorio. “You’ve seen the other night we had 5,000 fans at Wigan – it’s such a massive club.
“That was one of the reasons why I wanted to come here – I knew how good of a club it was, how big it was.
“We’ve still got confidence from last season, from what we did, the run we went on, the amount of games we managed to win and the football we were playing. This season we really want to attack it and that’s what we’re doing.
“Since the start of pre-season, that’s the gaffer’s aim – he wants us in the Championship. And there’s no point playing if we’re not aiming for that. We’ve got the squad to do it.
“We’re close as a group, which is even better because on the pitch it shows – we’re we all work so hard for each other and long may it continue.”
Williams has played alongside summer signing Josh Sheehan in midfield recently and has been impressed by the former Newport man.
“Last season we played against Newport and you could tell how good he was,” he added. “He’s come here, the way he’s started the season has been absolutely brilliant.
“He can control a game - he can receive the ball in tight areas which we need the way we play. Me, (Antoni) Sarcevic and Josh – we got on so well on the pitch.”
