Ali Crrawford should not be thinking about Bolton Wanderers as he takes the next step in his career.
That’s the view of Ian Evatt, who sent the Scottish midfielder out on loan to St Johnstone on deadline day knowing he may well have played his last game for Bolton.
Crawford dropped out of the reckoning in January as a League Two player and spent the second half of last season on loan at Tranmere Rovers.
The 30-year-old could make his debut against Rangers after the international break and Evatt hopes he can find regular football after ‘losing his way’ in the last 12 months.
“For now it isn’t about what Ali needs to do for us, it is about what Ali needs to do for himself and that is to get in their team, play regular football, and play to the standards we know he can,” he said.
“I know Ali is a good player, a talented player, and he is a good character too. He needs to find himself again.
“He lost his way a little bit last season, went to Tranmere and it didn’t really work out.
“But for now Ali needs to take care of Ali, get in their team and play the best he can.”
Asked if there is any potential for a return to Wanderers in January when he loan expires, Evatt refused to rule out the possibility.
“The door is never closed to anyone,” he added.
