Bolton's Dapo Afolayan abused in video after Ipswich clash 12996099

Ipswich Town have released a statement in response to a video containing discriminatory comments aimed at Wanderers’ Dapo Afolayan.

The video was posted by an apparent Ipswich fan following this afternoon’s League One fixture.

Afolayan scored twice as the Whites ran out 5-2 winners at Portman Road.

The statement reads: "The club is aware of a video on social media that appears to have been filmed during today’s fixture with Bolton Wanderers at Portman Road.

"We are conducting a thorough investigation into the matter, and we have made the relevant authorities aware, including the police.

"Ipswich Town Football Club does not tolerate discrimination of any kind and will not hesitate to take strong, but appropriate, action.

"We encourage supporters to report any such behaviour by speaking to their nearest steward or through the Kick It Out app. We will not be commenting more at this time."

Wanderers also commented on the video, saying: “We're disgusted to have learned of discriminatory and hateful comments directed at Dapo Afolayan in a video that appears to have been filmed by an Ipswich fan during today's game.

“We show our full support to Dapo and commend the direct approach to taking action by Ipswich Town.”

Earlier in the week, Wanderers forward Elias Kachunga received a series of messages containing racist language on social media.

The Football Association recently urged social media companies to “step up and take accountability” including taking action to “ban abusers from their platforms”.

That followed the high-profile abuse of three England players – Bukayo Saka, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho - after the Euros.

Disgusting.

Hope they find them and prosecute.

I don't want to distract from the issue but taking the knee clearly isn't the answer - it won't change one racists mind and clearly hasn't motivated any of the people around the racist who haven't bothered to report that person to a steward.

I assume this is the video?

I've posted it as a 'spoiler' so people can choose to see it or not.

To view it just click where it says 'video' below.

Strangely enough I've sort of crossed paths with this bloke before (or at least of the same name from Ipswich) and thought at the time he had mental health issues.

I view a twitter account where the author gives a breakdown of daily positive covid cases and 'Troy' used to post some very weird stuff on there.  I never replied to him and blocked him as I didn't want to be bothered with the shit he was coming out with.

Seems he was frequently banned by Twitter as he kept popping up with new accounts (he reminded me of Bread who did exactly the same thing of posting abuse, getting banned by Twitter, and coming back with yet another account - and another, and another... etc, etc) all of which I blocked as well.

So I'm not surprised to see this tweet -

Mental issues or not it seemed he knew enough to know he was in the wrong.

Trust he gets what he deserves.
