Guy on Quest said the stats show only 5% of pens go down the middle apparently.

Really?
The thing is, more than 10% of them miss when they aim for the corner. So of the penalties that actually hit the target the biggest percentage is in the middle part of the goal. If we are talking about exactly in the middle then yes maybe it's 5 percent. But if we are talking about the middle 3rd of the goal, if you divided the goal into equal thirds, your best chance to save is by not moving.
There are a few interesting studies on this.

Here is one

Blimey that's detailed - more like spot the ball! I think that the guy was just suggesting that 5% aim down the middle as opposed to picking a side.

Replays later showed the referee had got it spot on, as Lloyd Isgrove had produced the final touch on the ball.

I do hope that the club appeal the referee's appalling decision. He knew full well that Santos had been deceived by a difference of  opinion between the ref and his own assistant - and that difference only came to light after the ref belatedly made his decision i.e. after Santos touched the ball with his hand - so why did he book Santos for a mistake that the officials caused? Letter of the law over common sense and fair play?

Eh???

You play to the whistle, it's as simple as that!

There will be no appeal.

The ref probably had no idea why Santos picked up the ball, because he had certainly not stopped play - and he was correct not to have done so too.

Iles got it completely wrong in his comments at the time.

You got it wrong too with your 'appalling' decision comment later still.

I just found it funny Iles trying to defend his tweet both on Twitter and later in the article he wrote - and there certainly wasn't that much 'confusion in the stadium' as he claims, people who went were posting on TW's match thread that Isgrove had played the player on by being the last player to touch the ball.

Now you are making me laugh with your attempt to try and to cover up your mistake as well!

Two birds with one stone, eh!

Well i was there and i was confused as were many others! Yes the ball did come off Issy so wasn't offside but the linesman did have his flag up which is what confused Santos.

What really pissed me off about that goal was that it cost me money, i had bets on us winning by 2 and by 3 or more  Mad

As for the game 2 great finishes but we took our foot of the pedal second half when we could and should have finished them off with at least one more goal. They then score at the end and make it a nervy finish.
