I was on a forum earlier today for Birmingham City and they were asking how big their club was and where their fans saw them in the pecking order.

I'm going to give you 10 clubs, if you can be arsed place them in order of how big you perceive them to be. Biggest at the top and smallest at the bottom.

Birmingham City
Bolton Wanderers
Charlton Athletic
Fulham
Leicester City
Norwich City
Sheffield Wednesday
Swansea City
West Brom
Wigan Athletic

Bolton were included in their list of 10 clubs, later tonight I'll reveal where the Birmingham fans thought Bolton were in that list of 10 clubs. But what order would YOU put them in?

You really think Norwich are a bigger club than Sheff Weds? Why?

*Swansea City have spent 4 years in the top flight, and haven't won a major competition.
*Wigan have done 8 years in the top flight, they were formed just 80 years ago and were only elected into the football league in the late 70's. The story regarding trophies is the same as that of Swansea's.
*Fulham have just a single year in the top flight to their name more than Bury. (23) They have never won anything worth noting.
*Charlton have had 26 top flight seasons. They won the FA Cup in 1947.
*Norwich have 22 top flight seasons. They have won the League Cup twice and have a massive fanbase largely due to them being the only league club in a county of 862,400.
*Leicester have had 46 top flight seasons and won the League Cup four times. They also have a large fanbase for the same reason as Norwich.
*Birmingham have had 57 top flight seasons and have won the League Cup twice. Their fanbase is similarly sized to Bolton's and West Brom's.
*Bolton and West Brom are both founder members of the football league and have spent 73 and 75 years in the top flight respectively. Bolton have won four FA Cups and West Brom five along with two league titles.
*Wednesday have 66 top flight seasons, with four league titles, three FA cups and a League Cup to their name. Their fanbase is probably the largest of the eight clubs mentioned.

To be fair, you were the only one who thought the object of the exercise was to guess what the Birmingham fans thought Rolling Eyes

What order would YOU put them in?

And how do you judge how big a team is? Success? Fan base - I judged on, from the top of my head, fan base, I guess Birmingham fans did the same...

I always read these 'Big clubs' threads for a laugh.

No one will ever define a big club/bigger club ever.

However, Doffcocker's closest for me and that's without his reasoning.

Yes I think Doff's got it fairly spot on - I'm personally surprised at how poor is Fulham's actual history - worse than Charlton's. I always think of Jonny Haines, Jimmy Hill, Bobby Robson, George Cohen and more recently the Al-Fayed years.

Anyway if we were to add Burnley to that list, where would you include them - after all they have won the league which is more than Bolton have. Team of the seventies and all that too!

So where abouts would you (or anyone else for that matter) pitch them?

It still comes down to how you define big/bigger clubs.

Let's take support, in the 2010 - 11 Derby County were getting 25,000
on at home but we had a better away average than them. We are identical as Founder Members, 2 Championships and 1 FA Cup. If you'd asked folk who was the 'biggest' then most would say Derby because they get more fans on (plenty of incentives by the way) and they've got a big shiny newish stadium.

A lot of them clubs have more potential (population and money) than us. but most of them have done nothing compared to Burnley FC.

Blackburn - Bolton - Burnley - Preston - Blackpool - Wigan - Bury

Bury are not a big club. More famous for black puddings than football.
