Adam Senior admits it has been a rollercoaster season but is determined to make the most of his opportunity at Wanderers.
The youngster has spent time on loan at Ashton United and York City this term but is now back in the first-team picture at Bolton.
“It has been a bit mad but what I needed,” he said. “I went to Ashton to get fit because I haven’t played properly for two years now. I enjoyed it there.
“York was good but interesting because the team shouldn’t be where it is and the fans are not happy, so it was good to learn there.
“With the injuries I knew there could be a good opportunity (at Bolton). It’s the luck you need in football.
“I was happy to be called back and when the gaffer told me I was buzzing to be playing. It is just what I want, supporting Bolton.”
Senior featured in the 1-0 defeat at Accrington Stanley over the weekend and admits it was a tough result to take.
However, the defender insists the squad has what it takes to bounce back and put a run together like they did last season.
He added: “If we take those chances in the first half we go in 3-1 up and it is a completely different game but this sort of stuff happens - we just have to kick on.
“We are going to be down because we have lost but we have to stay together, everyone around the club as one. We were in this situation last season and we know what we have got to do.
“Lads are getting back fit now and we are going to be a good squad when everyone is back.”
Senior insists he learned a lot from his time in non-league and says the regular playing time was “good for me”.
“I have loved every minute of it because that is what I am here for, Saturdays when you play,” said the defender.
“Last season I didn’t play, but this year I think I have learned a lot with my experiences at both clubs on loan.
“The ins and outs of non-league and then at York the fans are not happy there, which is understandable, so I have learned how to play and deal with that. It has been good for me.
“I am not sure how it works now for me because I have played for three clubs.
“But time last week when I was playing at Guiseley away, I didn’t think I’d be playing in front of thousands of Bolton fans at Accrington in League One.
“Football changes so quickly so you have to see what happens. I played under Keith Hill at centre half – now I’m a right back. I have enjoyed it.”
