Wanderers next opponents will be "100 per cent" vaccinated 13311246

Wanderers’ next opponents Morecambe have confirmed their entire first team squad will be full vaccinated against Covid by the time they come to the UniBol.

Shrimps boss Stephen Robinson has confirmed his players have already had both jabs and will be given the booster early this week.

Bolton saw their game against Wycombe postponed on Saturday after an outbreak of Covid at the training ground but have declined to comment on the number of players affected.

“It’s a worry when you see the amount of games that have been called off recently, we are very lucky here that we have every single player here double vaccinated,” Robinson said.

“Every player will have their booster on Tuesday as well, so we are really counting ourselves lucky on that front.

“In terms of the general aspect of football, we have seen a lot of games called off this weekend and it is a concern, hopefully we can get through this period.

“No-one wants to see football cancelled, no-one wants to see football without fans because it is not real, that was certainly something that was really unenjoyable.

“We want fans in stadiums, we have to find a way around it but ultimately people’s health is the most important thing."

Wanderers hope the Boxing Day game will still go ahead despite being unable to gather a squad of 13 outfield players and one goalkeeper against Wycombe.

The club's training ground at Lostock has continued to operate, albeit under the EFL's new 'red' guidelines.

Morecambe drew 0-0 with Fleetwood on Saturday, with Robinson drawing encouragement from the performance.

“I think we are capable of passing the ball better, we have to find that right balance but we take the result as a positive one as we have some players out with injury at the back.”

Meanwhile, Hamburg have given Wanderers the green light to keep Xavier Amaechi beyond January.

The winger’s current deal runs out at the end of this month and Wanderers are keen to keep him at the UniBol after finally guiding him back to full fitness.

Amaechi will once again have to take a salary cut to play in League One – but the player is eager to relaunch his career in England and has enjoyed his time in Ian Evatt’s squad so far.

Reports in the German press claim Hamburg, currently third in Bundesliga 2, are open to the idea of him staying with Bolton, and it is understood they were impressed with the way the club handled the latter stages of his rehabilitation after fracturing his metatarsal in a pre-season friendly with Preston North End.

Amaechi has made eight appearances since coming back from injury, scoring his first professional goal against Cheltenham Town last month.

His contract in Germany runs until summer 2023 but the former Arsenal trainee is looking to impress at Bolton in an effort to earn a permanent move back to the UK.
