Covid: Rotherham United issue update ahead of Bolton Wanderers clash 13334632

Rotherham say they have no Covid-19 cases in their squad ahead of their upcoming clash with Wanderers.

The Millers were due to face Lincoln this evening but the match has been postponed after the Imps recorded a number of positive tests.

Wanderers are scheduled to face Paul Warne’s men at the New York Stadium on New Year’s Day (KO 3pm).

The Whites’ last three matches have been called off following a Covid outbreak at the club, with 14 players and four members of staff testing positive.

"Rotherham United’s Sky Bet League One fixture against Lincoln City, scheduled to take place on Wednesday 29th December has been postponed,” read a club statement.

"Lincoln City informed the Millers and the EFL on Tuesday afternoon that they would be unable to fulfil the fixture at AESSEAL New York Stadium due to a number of positive COVID-19 cases in their squad.

"At present, Rotherham United are not aware of any positive cases within our own playing squad.

"In light of the increased transmission rate of the Omicron variant, the EFL will now review the circumstances surrounding the postponement.

"In addition, it will assist affected clubs throughout this challenging period to help them mitigate against the risk of infection amongst players and staff, while ensuring their obligations to the EFL regulations are maintained.

"A rearranged date for the fixture will be confirmed in due course."

Rotherham sit at the top of the League One table, having won 14 of their opening 23 matches back in the third tier.

However, the Millers suffered a 1-0 loss at Accrington Stanley on Boxing Day – their first loss defeat since September.
