Bolton closing in on Iceland and Millwall striker Jon Dadi Bodvarsson 13389541

Confidence is growing at Bolton Wanderers that they can wrap up a loan deal for Icelandic striker Jon Dadi Bodvarsson.

Millwall remain willing to let the 29-year-old leave The Den despite picking up an injury to first-choice front man Tom Bradshaw at the weekend.

Sources in South London claim talks have continued since the weekend which will see Bodvarsson link-up with the Whites for the rest of the season.

Wanderers would also be in pole position to sign him at the end of his contract in the summer if the move works out well for all parties.

Millwall made Bodvarsson one of their biggest earners in the Championship when they paid £700,000 to sign him from Reading in 2019.

He has struggled to win over Lions fans and has this season made just a single appearance for the club, against Cambridge United in the League Cup.

The club is keen to offload as much of his wage as possible in an effort to create funds for their own recruitment before the deadline. And it is understood that Bodvarsson is also reducing his financial demands significantly to try and push the deal through.

Ian Evatt had hoped to bring the striker in before this weekend’s trip to Shrewsbury and may yet get his wish.

Millwall boss Gary Rowett has also allowed Salford City to open talks with Matt Smith – with the League Two side one of a few who had hoped to convince Eoin Doyle to stay in English football when he opted to return to Ireland with St Patrick’s Athletic.
