Ian Evatt insists Wanderers won't force anyone out the exit door 12945424

Ian Evatt insists Wanderers won’t force anyone out the exit door despite a busy month on the transfer front.

The Whites have already brought in six fresh faces and are hoping to get a further deal over the line before Monday’s deadline.

Evatt admits not everyone is guaranteed to make the club’s EFL quota should and says some players have options to go out on loan.

But the Bolton boss won’t be putting pressure on anyone to leave in the final days of the January window.

He said: “You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to understand if you’re not getting involved in squads and not coming off the bench, you kind of know where you sit. That’s how it is.

“There will be some conversations to be had in the next couple of days, especially if we get these two players over the line, and things will happen quickly.

“We will never force anyone out of this football club – it’s just not the way we do things.

“But what we will do is give them options and make sure they understand where they fit, where they stand with us.

“Then it’s their decision. That’s just football and the nature of the beast unfortunately.”

Wanderers have kept back-to-back clean sheets against Ipswich and Shrewsbury, and Evatt is pleased with his side’s defensive resilience of late.

The Bolton chief insists it is crucial to have a “solid base” and says it was a key part of last season’s promotion from League Two.

“Many times this season, we haven’t given ourselves a platform to go and win games from,” he added.

“Last season our really good run was all from a solid base, clean sheets, being hard to beat and we’d nick the odd goal.

“We’re more attacking and expansive this season but we’ve come away from that solid base and foundation.

“George Johnston comes in with weird and crazy statistics every single day. He told me there are six teams who haven’t lost after going ahead this season.

“We’re one of them and Sunderland are also one, so that’s 0-0 this Saturday! But yeah, the first goal in games is pivotal and I think too many times this season, we haven’t got it.

“When we do get it, we seem to build and grow in confidence and we manage to see things out, so hopefully we can score a bit earlier than we did last week and make this game more enjoyable. But this is as tough as it gets.”
