I think Charles tried to shape it into the top corner. Had he belted it he'd probably have scored.

Frustrating night all round though.
Why not just make sure he hit the target, it was a sitter and sorry Bonce but for me he did blast it!! 🥴

I agree - and it was a bad decision. Could have been a different game if one of those early chances went in but none did and once they'd scored it was always going to be an uphill battle - which exposed our weaknesses.
Santos had a perfectly presentable chance to head an equaliser and it's increasingly apparent he has no attacking instincts. Again we were overelaborate in front of goal and some of the passing wasn't great especially crossing at head height which played into their hands - so we got nothing from it. Pretty to watch at times but sadly that isn't the same as ruthless.
Now looking odds on we'll finish mid-table - which isn't a bad thing in the first season back at this level. I just hope Shazza hasn't bet the ranch on us going up again because it's obvious that we'll need to add to this squad if we're going to have a good run at it next year.
I'm sure Evatt will say we're still in with a chance but performances like the two Morecambe games and Burton suggest we're not ready - and the MKD game underlined our shortfall.
Still, we're a good watch.

Very frustrating watch last night, only Bolton could end the first half with 81% possession and be 1-0 down! We started off well but needed to score early but we overplayed it far too much last night.

I was also amazed JDB didn't start and Dapo's form has dropped off again. As for Johnston, how many goals has he cost us this season, just not good enough in my opinion.

Well not having seen Charles’s miss again yet, I’ll have to bow to yours and bonce’s opinion but I still maintain with the time and space he had, there was no need to try and “shape” it, or do any other than just hit the bloody target, like Bod did later.

I do though agree with the rest of your summary Lusty, we constantly fanny about passing sideways when we need to be running at packed defences from which I’m sure we’d get either penalties or free kicks. Evatt knew perfectly well what Morecambe would do and to be fair to them they did it well, including the black arts and time wasting. I’m not saying it’s easy to play through them but surely we have enough skilfull players to at least have a go if nothing else is working and once again, can I ask if it’s against the rules to actually shoot from distance? Mind you,on last nights performance perhaps they’re better not doing!!

Spot on Norpig, Evatt thinks he’s being clever constantly swapping Baka and Bod but to me it’s just plain stupid. Pick your best and play them and if the others don’t like it tough.

Johnson’s an enigma to me because he was so good going forward but at the back he takes so much time deciding what to do allowing the opposition forwards to pressure him. He could be good but I tend to agree, not good enough if we want to progress. He’s given away too many like last night and we’ve got away with a lot of them but surely last night row Z was his only sensible option not a silly back pass?

What a load of shite, I can't believe I gave up a night of having my feet massaged for that crap.

The manager is clueless, Bodvarsson is clearly our best forward and should be the first name on the teamsheet. This chopping and changing is bollocks. Charles looks to be showing the form that kept him at Accrington for so long, and Bako should be a late sub, not starting.

Central defence is an absolute shambles, considering Evans was a centre half that's pretty disgraceful. Santos & Johnston always have a big mistake in them and the opposition know this.

And midfield. Dear me. Someone needs to tell them you don't get any points for passing sideways.

All in all, a waste of a night. And any lingering hopes of the play-offs are now gone.

Evans out.

 - you've been waiting for months to have the opportunity to trot that out again when you could have been writing BELs to keep us entertained all this time. Weren't we in a relegation battle with ZERO hopes of the playoffs the last time we heard "Evans Out"?

Totally agree with your comments on the performance though and it shows where we are at - not good enough to compete consistently with the top teams but secure enough with something to build on in our first season back in League 1.

If Doyle would have missed that sitter people would calling for his head today - but we like Charles so it's a pass.  I lost track of the times we could have put the ball in the box only to cut it back and go square back n forth.....and no confidence to shoot as you say. We are trying to walk it into the net. Its hard to complain when our football is mostly ducky. Just a few more tweaks needed.

We have problems at the back too though. Santos gave away a cast iron penalty and if the ref hadn't been an idiot we could have been two down against a team struggling in this division. Is it the players, the system or trying to play this way with these players? Whatever it is, we are not ruthless and sometimes we look devoid of ideas despite all the options we now have.

Agreed that was a silly challenge from Santos - they had at least one other sitter also. Bottom line is that we are 11th in the table - so we are decent mid-table outfit until further notice.
