Ian Evatt makes plea to home fans ahead of Morecambe clash 13551348

Ian Evatt has made an impassioned appeal to Wanderers fans to held inspire his side to a play-off charge in League One.

With six home games remaining – the first of which is against Morecambe tonight – the Bolton boss hopes to stir supporters’ souls at the UniBol, raising noise levels and creating the most daunting atmosphere possible for opposing teams.

Wanderers sit 11th and seven points off the top six but top the form table over the last 10 games.

They remain distinct outsiders for a play-off spot but with direct rivals Plymouth, Sheffield Wednesday and Portsmouth also due in town over the coming weeks, Evatt has issued a plea to every single fan to make a difference in the run-in.

“The fans have created a great atmosphere all season here and they want us to give them absolutely everything, our absolute all. And we will definitely try to do that,” he told The Bolton News.

“But I need them to give us their best too, make this place intimidating, intense, the sort of place that our players will thrive on, those performance levels will go up too.

“If you marry the two things up then this place becomes a really tough place to come and we have shown that with results in the last six or seven games.

“Now there are six more games. I need a big push from the fans along with a big push from my players. Let’s see where we can go.”

Wanderers face a big decision for tonight’s game, with MJ Williams currently sitting on nine league yellow cards and needing to avoid a booking against Morecambe or be hit with a two-game ban.

Totals will be reset before the weekend but with no guarantees over the fitness of Kyle Dempsey – who missed out on the weekend’s win at his former club Gillingham with agrion injury – Williams may have to be risked.

Evatt continues to keep his points target a secret but thinks home form will be pivotal if his side are going to make another late dash for the line.

“It feels so similar to last season, we don’t really have much margin for error,” he said.

“We have to play teams in and around us, mostly at home, other than that lot down the road.

“We know what we need to do. Ten games, six at home, win all the home games and then try to steal something away from home, that is how it has to be.

“There are loads of points to play for yet and there will be a lot of ups and down.

“When we go home and speak to people in the game they are pointing out that teams above us are winning, but it is irrelevant. The picture will change week on week.”
