Ian Evatt calls for composure as Charles prepares for Accrington reunion 13687943

Dion Charles must keep his emotions in check as he prepares to face his former employers Accrington Stanley at a packed-out UniBol today.

A bumper crowd is expected to take advantage of discounted ticket prices in the club’s penultimate home game of the season, which pits Northern Ireland international Charles against his old boss John Coleman.

The Bolton striker – currently on a 12-game run without a goal for club and country – left Stanley under somewhat of a cloud after reportedly falling out with his manager over a promise to sign a new contract.

But Charles has since disputed several stories which emanated from that side of Lancashire at the time and insisted that he joined Wanderers for £320,000 in January with his conscience clear.

Ian Evatt is ready to put the energetic front man in from the start on Monday but wants him to be in the right frame of mind.

“I don’t think he has anything to prove,” he said. “We have been delighted with what we have signed.

“He just has to go out there and – just like Kieran Sadlier did at Doncaster Rovers – let his football do the talking.

“He doesn’t need to play with emotion or his heart. He needs to be cool, calm, composed and do the things that we’ve bought him in to do.

“If he does that, I’m sure he’ll have a really good game and hopefully get a goal also.”
