Wanderers attempts to sign Fossey on permanent deal heading in right direction 13757665

Marlon Fossey’s full-time return to Wanderers could soon be wrapped up, The Bolton News understands.

Positive talks have been held with the Fulham wing-back and his representatives with a view to signing him on a permanent basis.

Fulham’s promotion to the Premier League has simplified the situation for Ian Evatt, who made an informal agreement over a transfer fee with the West London club back in January.

Fossey’s season was ended by a knee injury – but sources close to the player say his quick recovery has been encouraging and he will be ready to start pre-season, even if there is still some detail to be sorted on the move.

Wanderers have stayed tight-lipped on their summer recruitment but are also thought to have held talks with Cambridge United defender Jack Iredale last week.

Evatt is excited by the work that has gone on behind the scenes to identify new signings for next season.

“There is so much work that goes on behind the scenes in doing that and making sure we try and limit the risk with recruitment,” he said. “There is always risk and you are never going to get every single one right, but what we try and do is limit the risk as best we can and that involves lots of hard work and not just from myself and Chris (Markham), but from our team of analysts behind that are building reports for me to look at and view.

“It is a really good place to be at the minute, a club which from two years ago to now is almost unrecognisable.

“It is not just the recruitment side of things as well, the board are helping us renovate and do better things with Lostock, the stadium, parts of it are looking tired now and that needs extra work.”

He is a nice player but I wouldn't sign him. His injury record suggests he will do very well for 10 games and then get his season ending injury in October.Seen it all before at Bolton when players with a history of injuries sign

You might be right but then again you might not be.

We can't get anyone near as good as him on the money we have to offer so it's got to be worth a gamble.

Plenty players have had bad injury records when they were younger but were ok thereafter - fingers crossed he will be one of them.

We haven't signed him yet and don't even know what the deal is if we do but I for one have my fingers crossed we do - and everything works out just fine for him and us both.

Disappointingly, all the article says is that "work is going on behind the scenes" - which we would take for granted - and provides no new information or update.

He missed a few games but i'd hardly say he's injury prone. He's worth the risk as Sluffy says as he was great for us last season.
