This will take some explaining away but it looks very much like we have the same old defensive problems as last season - poor marking, failing to clear, overplaying it at the back, individual errors and generally trying to be too clever when we should be hoofing it away to buy time to reset when we're under pressure.

B team could be in for another kicking tonight as they take on Northern Premier League Bamber Bridge.
They beat Longridge 6 - 1 the other week so unless the new lads start to get it together they may get humped. Hoping for better.

True - Bamber Bridge fielded 3 trialists so they were far from full strength

At first glance - albeit after only two games against Northern League opposition-  it looks like the youngsters we've recruited for the B team are somewhere around 6th/7th tier level so they have some growth to do if they are going to end up supplementing the first team.

But it's early days and they have some experienced guys around to help them develop so hopefully they'll come good.

I see Bolton's first team have arranged a friendly against Huddersfield Town reserves this afternoon while Huddersfield's first team will be playing at Tranmere.

Danny Schofield’s squad will travel to Prenton Park to face Tranmere Rovers in a noon kick-off, before a second XI travel to the University of Bolton Stadium to take on Bolton Wanderers at 3pm.

Since Toffalo and O'Brien were signed by Forest and a bunch of other players were released, Nicholls Colwill Lees Pearson Hogg Thomas Holmes Koroma  Sinani and Ward are their main surviving first team players and they've signed Mahoney Boyle Nakayuma Rudoni and Kasumu and loaned Anjorin from Chelsea.

If they're sending out two teams to play on the same day there will be some squad fillers so it will be interesting to see if the main guys and new signings feature at the Unibol or at League 2 Prenton.

They paid good money for Rudoni so he might be an indicator of what Schofirld is trying to achieve in each game - challenge or confidence booster.

It's Huddersfield first team. The B team played earlier vs Tranmere.

Hardly. Anjorin is rested after playing for Chelsea on Wednesday, Nakayama still hasn't got international clearance, David Kasumu, Will Boyle and Aaron Rowe have all been ill this week so are not being risked.
Jordan Rhodes and half the first team battered Tranmere 4 - 1 and the other half of those that are left are playing against us.
16 minutes in and we're starting to come into the game a bit - notably after Matty Pearson went off injured so they've had to resort to a more traditional 442.
Chance for Dapo but he shoots wide.

Koroma through but shoots straight at the keeper. Fairly open game.

Terriers pressing hard for the last 5 minutes - good test for the defence this.

Wanderers pen claim turned down (Russell on Charles). So even and end to end for the most part.
Back down the other end and Santos clears off the line!

0 - 1 right at the end of extra time. Danny Ward beats Santos to the cross and heads past Trafford.

Hate it when former Wanderers come back and give us grief.

Expecting Evatt to make a few changes at HT. You'd think Kacha would get a run out against his old club and why not give the other subs a bit of exercise?
