Why Bodvarsson thinks Wanderers can learn from 'streetwise' Rotherham 13944306

Jon Dadi Bodvarsson reckons Wanderers have what it takes to push for promotion - but says they need to become more "streetwise”.

The Iceland international was one of several January signings who made a big impact at the UniBol last term, scoring seven goals in 21 games as the Whites finished ninth in League One.

Ian Evatt has already made it clear that he wants his side to be challenging near the top end of the table next season.

And Bodvarsson believes they can learn lessons from Rotherham, who finished second last term to secure an immediate return to the Championship.

“You look at the team who is promoted, Rotherham, and I have full respect for them,” he said.

“Their style of play isn’t the most attractive in the world but they are very streetwise, hard-working, disciplined defensively.

“I think if we can add just a little bit of that to our game then I think promotion can happen.

“Sometimes you just have to join the ugliness of the game and make it a scrap. That is inevitable.

“We can improve on noticing that. Sometimes you can see that in the first 15 or 20 minutes of the game and I think it comes with a bit of experience.”

Bodvarsson is currently experiencing his first pre-season at Wanderers after spending two-and-a-half years at Millwall.

The 30-year-old is determined to keep putting in the hard yards and is hopeful that it will pay off in the coming months.

He added: “Everything has to click. There is a lot of hard work you have to put in but also we have to be a little lucky as well.

“That is why pre-season is so important, working on the little things that we can improve on to make us a stronger and better team than last season.”
