Does Thomasson really command a starting spot?

George Thomasson has started at least three last two games, maybe more but my memory fails me.

On the fringes a bit last year but did well in patches, I really expected he would be edged out this season.

With the likes of Sheehan, Dempsey, Morley, Williams I expected Thomasson would be bench or cup fodder at best.

But is he proving us all wrong?
And can I see a hint of a captain in him?

What do you think of him so far?

Great squad player who always gives 100% but not a starter for me.

Maybe not an automatic starter yet but he will be in a year or two. He was MOTM against Charlton but Evatt will only pick him for certain games when he needs 2 holding midfielders i think.

He's a good lad. Think he was part of the Trevor Sinclair lads at Pro Direct Academy Lancashire, and Trevor spoke very highly of him.
Not sure Trevor's twitter remarks about the Queen have gone down very well though.

Always liked George and think he has a really good future. Of course he deserves a starting spot,he’s already better than the other options and isn’t anywhere near the finished article yet. A run in the team will build his confidence and when he starts using the powerful shot he has on him he’ll add to the goals list too. Watch the bigger clubs start to circle because George is the real deal.

Agree with the latter part of this i.e. he has a specific skillset and will be one of the tools in Evatt's box to be used when required.
And I think that applies to the entire squad (apart from Santos, Bradley and Trafford obvs) so I reckon he has as much chance of starting as everyone else now.
As a player he has definitely improved from last year and is developing nicely. His passing has certainly improved.

As to whether he'll start at Cheltenham - I reckon it's horses for courses.

Sorry.

Another good performance from Thomason.
He seems to have improved massively from last season and has started to pass forward between the lines as well as looking after the ball better, whilst still managing to rat around for possession. Better still, he has the legs to put a good shift in so he's become an excellent asset. If he can add goals to that he'd be Championship standard and could even go further if he continues to improve.

Thomasson looks better than ever. I never thought I would say that. Well done the lad. And praise to Evatt for using him. It would have been easy to go with one of the others. When Evatt has a form player he doesn't often ignore it.

Thomasson is currently out performing the old guard. Well done lad.

He's been decent but nothing more. Picking the lad and Williams in the same team is madness though. I'm guessing Ipswich, Plymouth and Sheff Weds aren't playing with a back 7.

It's an interesting point.
I feel like it would be harsh to drop either of them however, we are in league one and our very talented creative players should be bossing this division.

I think I said in another thread though about George's awareness, decision making, diversions, positioning etc. It seems to be coming on leaps and bounds every few weeks. He might be better than Nolan was.
